Today is International Care Day. This year it is under the motto: “For health care with a future”.
Before today’s big rally at 4:30 p.m. at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, a network gathered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Leipzig University Hospital. With an information booth under the motto “Health is not a commodity” they sought dialogue with employees and showed solidarity presence on site.
“We want to set an example because things can no longer continue as they have in recent years in nursing and the healthcare sector.
The economization of the health sector means that profits take precedence over health. That is why we are campaigning for the abolition of the DRG system and against the privatization of hospitals.
The economization of the health sector also leads to catastrophic conditions in nursing: the enormous nursing shortage drives hospital employees to stress and overwork. We are campaigning for a solidarity-based and needs-oriented healthcare system, with better working conditions and more nursing staff.
On the international day of care we are present and show our solidarity with the workers in care. We want to make your demands visible and draw attention to the issue,” read the appeal. The offer was well received by both employees and the press office of the hospital.
